a feathered symphony

cheeps, tweets

squawks and caws…

coos, pecks

honks and quacks…

quite an ensemble of musicians

to awaken the senses ~

performing a melange of melodies

to accompany life’s many dances….

the roadside diner

right now it lies barren,

not much to attract the eyes

to a goose or a Sand Hill crane,

it is a buffet of delectable delights….

flocks of families and friends all come to gather

sharing stories and gossip alike ~

such as

“did you hear the scandalous tale about so-and-so and so-and-so?”

“anything exciting happen during your long, return flight?”

~ however ~

in only a few weeks,

this field will evolve

into something a bit different

not quite new …

still a tasty place to grab a quick bite

with an eclectic decor

a whole lots more to chew!!!

open 24 hours – all you can eat buffet…….

If – a story

IF I could return to this world

long after I have gone,

I would return as a bird ~

as a majestic, white swan.

I would settle on a lake,

way beyond the beaten path ~

far away from the chaos

the noise of life’s wrath.

I would spend my days gracefully,

gliding along ~~~

to the rhythm of nature’s symphonies

occasionally honking a song.

I may find another ~

a soul mate, a partner

to create beautiful choreography ~

a pas de deux on the water

as our ballet transitions

from Act I to Act II,

little grey cygnets will be born,

maybe one,

possibly a few.

the little one’s will follow ~ ~ ~

single file one-by-one ~ ~ ~

our corps de ballet will be complete ~ ~ ~

waltzing around the lake

under the sun.

there will come a day

when their plumes of white will emerge,

our cast of soloists will take flight

making their way into the world

my partner and I will stay quietly behind ~

gliding side~by~side

ballet of life.

morning enchantment

darkness of nightfall has lifted,

the day has begun its dance

with birds providing the melody

nature’s colors unite to hold one another’s hands.

it is a display of existence in harmony

one we should never take for granted

maybe ‘us’ humans can take a few dance lessons

we may embrace our lives…enchanted

my sweet.

post script: Yesterday, my boys and I arrived home from a long day. Just as we were pulling the car into the driveway, there was a little couple right in the middle of the drive. They were having a moment. A moment you ask? They were kissing – beak to beak, there was head rubbing on a neck, and the best part was they were looking at each other – eye to eye. They were certainly communicating, with heads cocking to the right and left. They would look at each other then kiss beaks then rubbing heads. The boys and I sat in the car for almost ten minutes watching this exchange. When it was quite obvious they were not going to move for me, I angled my car slowly around them and pulled into the driveway. Did the birds move? Did they leave? No, they did not. They stayed on the driveway for another ten minutes then hopped into the grass, where I lost touch with the little turtle doves. I must say that I have never witnessed communication like this between animals. I was thinking I should have taken a picture or a little video, then I realized – no – this would have been an intrusion on their private moment. It was truly lovely. 🙂
