Weekly Photo Challenge – Floating

I have lots of photographs which reveal moments of floating, whether it be literally or figuratively.  I have many photographs of clouds in the sky.  I am always taking them – wanting to capture the ‘never to be seen moment again’ moment.   The photo I chose for this week takes both the literal and figurative into account, as well as the absurd and sadness which has, unfortunately become a common site in today’s society and our bodies of water.

Jordan took this photo last year, as a result of a class assignment.  He snapped a few wide angled shots which revealed more of the area around the bottle and this one, which was used for a film.  Water was the assigned topic and I suppose, you can figure out the ‘angle’ in which the film explored this very wet topic. {By the way, the shadows under the water are little fish.}

Weekly Photo Challenge – Rule of Thirds

*

*

the eye

the eye of Pee

*

This week’s challenge was a stumper for me – I had no idea there was a rule thingy about taking ‘off set’ photos (my personal terminology).  And a bokeh thing – never heard of it.  I am simply an owner of an I-phone who takes pictures of a lot of things and, well, most these things are of my daughter, Sydnee Pee.

I was entertaining the idea of sitting this week’s challenge out, but then I thought why?  I can do this…I can figure it out…  With the assistance of The Daily Post and the ‘easy to comprehend’ instructions, I set out to take a photo of an off-centered object with a bokeh thing. For two straight days, I was roaming my house – taking pics of plants, objects, my son, carpet, tree branches, food…..  It was not happening.  The bokeh was alluding me.  So yesterday, Pee was sitting on her couch and I had a moment of inspiration.  Fortunately, Pee was a bit ferklempt after having been outside and was cooperative.  She did not seem to mind having my phone in her face for about 20 minutes.

The photo above is the last of three taken in which I was specifically targeting her eye – but more than an eye – I was focusing on her eyelashes.  Pee has orange eyelashes!

I am not certain if this photo makes use of the rule effectively, but I gave it a go, got a really cool picture of Pee and she got a cookie out of the whole ordeal.  Not bad for a quiet Sunday afternoon…

The Daily Post – Symmetry

photo 4(2)

look at the red glare……….

I must admit, I have bent the definition of symmetry…a little….or a lot, depending on your perception…

My original intention was to take a photo of the sun peeping through a few leaves and branches. When I looked into the screen of my i-Phone, I was startled – amazed, really. Instead of golden-yellow, I was greeted by a kaleidoscope of brilliant red light.  So, I shifted my focus (yes, terribly bad pun) on the red glare and it’s balance of shapes and sizes.  It is not a perfectly symmetrical photo, but I must admit, for a natural phenomenon, it comes pretty darn close.

Weekly Photo Challenge – Signs

a raceway mounted, LED illuminated sign being tested in shop

If there is a photo challenge appropriate to my life – it would be signs.  I have been working for a sign manufacturer and installer for about 10 years.  The company was started by a close friend in 1985 and after he passed away in 2012, I ran the business for a year and a half until a buyer could be found.  The sign above was built in our shop.  Per the explanation under the photo, the sign was being tested for functionality, plus it was undergoing an inspection – a UL inspection, of which I am the UL technical representative for my business.  The photo below shows the final ‘installed’ product.

I realize this sign may seem ordinary, but to me, it is anything ‘but’ – a lot of effort went into fabricating this sign.  You may see a sign on a building, however, what you do not see is the design work, the back-and-forth dealings with the customer and property owner, the permitting, the fabrication, pre-inspections, installation, post inspection and collection of payment.  This particular sign was, well, let’s just say an en’light’ening project!

Weekly Photo Challenge – Adventure!

ς

roller coaster

The American Eagle at Six Flags Great America Gurnee, IL

ς

There is ‘lots of adventure’ to be had in this photo.  Yes, it is a roller coaster and, yes, it is a big one at that – however the true adventure lies ‘behind’ the photo:

This was Jordan’s first ever job – as a media technician, aka a dude with a film camera…making money for the very first time!

Two weeks later – Jordan left home for college – 7 hours away.  What could be more of an adventure in life than going out into the world? or being on one’s own for the very first time?

or most importantly…embarking on one’s dreams?

Yes…lots of adventure in this photo…
